Travelling to Kolkata

Transport Type...

Train

Kolkata’s rails connect to almost all of the large stations across the country, as well as serving as a gateway to North Eastern India. The two main stations located here are Howrah and Sealdah. Arriving at the Sealdah, pre-paid taxis are available outside of the main entrance to take you into the center of the city.

Ferries are also available, located directly across from the Howrah station, to deliver you to Babu Ghat or Fairlie Place (tickets are Rs. 4). Onward transportation from there ranges from taxis to buses to rickshaws, which is preferred over the traffic of Kolkata
’s back roads.

Air

Kolkata’s airport, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International, is located 20 kms outside of the city center. The airport provides connection with cities across both the world and all of India.

If traveling in the early hours, prepaid taxis are recommended for safe, on time arrival to and from the airport. The cost is approximately Rs. 150-250, depending on your desired destination.

Aside from taxis, the new air-conditioned Volvo Bus services are officially running, provided by Royal Cruiser for fees ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 60 to reach the city center. The buses consist of five different routes, so asking for help and directions is encouraged. The buses are located right outside of the domestic terminal gates.
